Ever since having a chat with the owner Cat back around 9 months ago, I have been hugely impressed by Tincture Tailor’s innovative ideas, product quality and ability to stand out in a saturated crowd.

The amount of CBD brands in the UK is growing consistently, albeit the FSA regulations certainly slowed newcomers down, but it is rare you find many brands going beyond CBD oil. I have however previously reviewed the CBG oil by tincture tailor, as well as the CBC oil (the first and only I’ve tested), while now I’m getting the chance to try a terpene blend.

What Is A Terpene Blend?

I guess to answer this question, I should initially explain what terpenes are. These are naturally occurring chemical compounds found in many plants and animals. Terpenes provide the unique smell that you get from cannabis, plus many other plants.

However, you’re not taking this product for the great fragrance, terpenes have been connected with a number of potential benefits. Unlike CBD, where I’m restricted in what I can legally say regarding health benefits, terpenes are present in a number of other plants and the evidence to support them is profound.

This study highlights the anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, antinociceptive, anticancer, antidiabetic, antihyperalgesic, antiviral, and gastroprotective effects of limonene alone.

What Does This Blend Contain?

A look over the lab report, which is accessible from the product page, will illustrate that it contains myrcene, linalool, bisabol and nerolidol, as well as a smaller amount of pinene.

These terpenes have specifically been chosen due to their associated benefits, all commonly high in ingredients used in herbal medicines to treat certain ailments. But the main focus with this terpene blend is to take it 30-60 minutes before bed in order to help you sleep.

Unlike sleep medication, this won’t make you feel drowsy or tired, it will simply ease anxiety and allow you to have a more clear mind when going to bed. It’s something I’ve really learned to appreciate, I used to think I struggled to sleep, but it’s because everything from the day whizzes around my mind, so taking something like this helps me to relax and drift off without stressing about what I could have done better.

They utilise MCT oil as the carrier oil, the same with their other products in the range. This is commonly recognised as the best carrier oil in relation to cannabinoids and terpenes, one I’m a big fan of, so full credit for this.

How Do I Take It?

As previously mentioned, you should take it 30-60 minutes before bed (they highlight 30 minutes before bed on the product page, but I gave it a bit more time during testing, allowing 45-60 minutes).

It’s worth highlighting that they state that it should be taken alongside cannabinoids, so it’s not a replacement for CBD oil, but instead something to help boost the effects.

The entourage effect is a phenomenon where cannabinoids and terpenes work better together than individually, so in their more natural state. The interactions between them have been shown to enhance results drastically, hence why full or broad spectrum is generally preferred to isolate (even if the FSA is pushing brands towards isolates currently).

As with CBD oil, you should drop the oil under your tongue and hold it there for 1-2 minutes. They recommend 2-4 drops, but I went slightly higher as I’m a bit useless at counting drops.

The Dropper

Tincture Tailor have an absolute gem with the dropper, one that is ridiculously hard to find. The dropper, set for 10ml tinctures, has measurement markings on it, highlighting 0.5 and 0.3ml.

The reason I wanted to highlight this is that the 30ml tinctures (generally US based) often have measurement markings on them, but the 10ml tinctures (generally UK products) never seem to. For that reason, I often save a longer tincture and use it with 10ml tinctures instead of the ones they provide.

For this reason, after you’re done with the bottle, you might want to clean and save the dropper to use it for future products. It beats guessing the quantities or counting the drops.

The Taste

It instantly reminded me of some products I’ve had before and I was trying to put my finger on it, but it’s due to the fruity undertones of the myrcene, almost tasting like a mix of mango and grape.

Despite their being a blend of terpenes present, the distinctive tastes I got were the fruity undertones from the myrcene. I also thought I tasted a slightly lemony taste, which would be limonene, however this is only present in a small amount, so I must be mixing that up for something else (I’m not quite a terpene connoisseur yet).

The most important aspect regarding taste was that it tasted nice, something that can’t always be said for CBD oil. I don’t mind the taste of CBD oil personally, but I know a number of people who buy flavoured options or gummies simply as they don’t like the taste, so you can rest assured this is much sweeter and tastier.

Where Can I Buy This From?

You can purchase the Tincture Tailor Power Down Terpene Blend from their website for £32. I’m happy to say you can get a free Power Down Terpene Blend when you purchase a CBD oil with the code ‘slothsaysrelax’.

This way, you can try out a terpene blend for the first time with absolutely no risk! Certainly worth giving a go.
