Following on from my review of the Holistic Highland Hemp CBD chocolate, I’m now looking at the brands very slickly packaged Dr Robertson’s Special Oil. Read on for the full review, or do post me any questions you may have about the product.

How Much CBD Do You Get?

The pack contains 1ml of paste, of which 45% is CBD. To be clear, it’s 100% hemp, with the other 55% made up of cannabis sativa L seed oil.

The lab report can easily be accessed from their product page, which highlights the presence of CBD, along with a number of other cannabinoids including CBG, CBC, CBN, CBDV etc.

The CBG levels are decent compared to some brands, something I always have a quick look out for. This full spectrum hemp extract utilises the whole rich plant extract, which is integral when it comes to getting all the various cannabinoids, terpenes and flavonoids you want present.

They actually provide the terpene profile breakdown as a separate PDF file from the certificate of analysis, something I quite like as many brands don’t show this. This isn’t something you necessarily need to deeply investigate in the same was as the cannabinoid profile breakdown, but it does make for interesting reading if you have a curious mind.

In general, the split looks relatively normal compared to others I’ve seen, with caryophyllene oxide, beta-caryophyllene, alpha-humelene and alpha-pinene being relatively high. The pinene is the part that gives CBD paste that forest scent.

I split my dosage during the testing period, taking a small amount in the morning before starting work, as well as a second dosage 30 minutes before bed. When you take it will depend on your reason for supplementing with CBD, so work out the best time for you personally.

How Do You Use It?

A little different to your usual CBD oil, but don’t let the injection appearance worry you, this requires a typical sublingual consumption method.

You’ll notice little lines on the side of the syringe, with measurements showing 0.2, 0.4, 0.6, 0.8 and 1ml. This will allow you to easily apply the pertinent amount below your tongue.

If you’re worried you’ll get the wrong dosage directly under your tongue, you can push it out onto your finger and then rub your finger under your tongue.

Why Use A CBD Paste?

I stated not too long ago on Instagram that I was shocked to find I was getting much better results when opting for a CBD paste over a CBD oil.

In general, the CBD pastes tend to normally be a full spectrum cannabis plant extract, containing all the cannabinoids and terpenes you’d hope for. You tend to need a smaller amount for a stronger dosage, meaning you can avoid some unnecessary additives.

You will also often find it is more budget friendly per mg of CBD than many CBD oil’s, despite offering much more enhanced results.

I do find dosing with a CBD paste a little bit fiddly and frustrating, but that is a fair trade-off for a higher quality product.

Why Is It Called Dr Robertson’s Special Oil?

Following a conversation with the owners of Holistic Highland Hemp, I was left impressed by the background story on the name, therefore I’ve asked them to provide the background, as I feel they can word it better than I ever could:

“As the CBD industry takes a turn with the introduction of new novel foods regulations, animal testing, and the widespread use of CBD products containing only single molecule  ‘white powder’ CBD, instead of a rich plant extract, we thought we should take a look back in time at some of the great extractors who have come before us.. As consumers increasingly demand full spectrum hemp products, and with a curiosity for the richest and most concentrated plant extracts available, we have released our most potent, full spectrum cannabis oil to date, ‘Robertsons Special Oil’ (45% CBD).”

“Named in honour of Professor Robertson, the highly regarded Professor of Chemistry at Calcutta in 1845 who was known for his high-quality cannabis extracts. His techniques however were deemed too expensive for general production compared to cheaper extraction methods being used commercially at the time. Professor Robertsons extracts were known to hold their potency for a long period of time, being described 4 years after production as ‘…retains all its energy, and is more active than the extracts of the shops generally seem to be’.“

“As we step forward into this new era of isolated CBD products and with synthetically produced CBD about to enter the food chain under novel foods regulations, we would like to introduce a quality full spectrum hemp product to the market, ‘Robertsons Special Oil’. Rich in terpenes, full spectrum cannabinoids, and with full laboratory analysis to back it up, ‘Robertsons Special Oil’ is 100% compliant with upcoming novel foods regulations, and 100% genuine full spectrum.”

Where Can I Buy This From?
