Over the past 2 weeks, I have been testing out the YourSleep CBD oil, which has worked nicely time-wise, as I had a huge number of meetings, presentations and an intense schedule in December leading up to the holidays, so having this before I went to bed (plus sometimes before those intense meetings) was very much appreciated.
So What Is Inside?
The key ingredient advertised is 2,000mg of CBD, which is matched with the lab test (highlighting 1,995.61mg), while there is also some cannabigerol, my favourite cannabinoid (I’m such a nerd)!
With 50mg of CBG, it’s not going to be a notable amount in a single serving (1.6mg in a 1ml pipette), but I appreciate any added bonus I can get.
Years ago when I talked about the future of the CBD industry on stage, one thing I highlighted was that the market was getting very saturated and brands would have to combine cannabidiol with other healthy ingredients to offer a more rounded product in order to stay ahead. Well YourSleep has done exactly that.
They have also included valerian, passion flower and lavender in each bottle. From the back of the pack, I can see this has been infused with 1,200mg of Valeriana Officinalis root, as well as 1,000mg of Passiflora Incarnata herb.
The Strength
2,000mg of CBD is a decent strength, while it’s in a 30ml bottle (traditionally the UK had 10ml bottles and USA had 30ml bottles, but this has changed with time), therefore a 1ml pipette would serve you with 66mg of CBD.
Now maybe it’s because I’m just easing back into taking CBD after a period away, but I felt like going for half that dosage, 33mg of CBD in 0.5ml of liquid.
They have lines on the pipette from 0.2-1ml, going up in 0.1ml lines, which is ideal, as again traditionally you didn’t tend to get the lines on many of these, meaning there was an element of guesswork involved.
0.5ml (33mg of CBD) was enough to keep me level during those meetings, easing my personal anxiety and also helping me to drift off at night. As you can imagine, I can’t outright state that this is a direct connection due to laws around CBD, but I can speak of my personal experience, which involved a cosy sleep and a calm head when I was having to present.
For anyone else looking to take this before a big meeting, I normally aim for 45 minutes beforehand, to ensure it has enough time to take effect.
The one improvement I would state for the lab test, potentially more of a reflection on Adact than on the brand, which is that it doesn’t show the other factors I like to check, such as whether it contains pesticides, heavy metals or solvents.
Cold Pressed Hemp Extract
You may notice on the front of the packaging the clear line ‘cold pressed hemp extract’, which is a term you may hear in the industry but may be a little confused what that actually means.
It basically means the extraction process is slightly different to other options, they don’t use heat or solvents to get the cannabinoids separated. This method tends to have a high level of potency and prevents degradation of cannabinoids. I also personally feel it’s more of a natural way, avoiding excessively high temperatures or chemical treatments is ideal in my eyes.
Valerian
Being a company that creates weighted blankets for a good nights sleep, it’s unsurprising they have opted to focus on the improved sleep aspect. Valerian has been shown to improve sleep quality, while also reducing the amount of time it takes to fall asleep. I love that, as it’s my pet hate climbing into bed early just to lie there for ages waiting to drift off.
A study using a dichotomous measure of sleep quality found that 80% of patients had improved sleep from valerian supplementation. While some people have valerian in a stew, it’s not commonly available (albeit a red valerian is grown here in the UK) and you don’t regularly see it in your supermarket, meaning supplementation is the most common method of consumption.
Passion Flower
This herb has been used throughout human history to help tackle anxiety and insomnia. One key double-blind study on PubMed looked at passionflower with sleep quality in healthy adults with mild sleep fluctuations. Participants consumed passionflower tea for a week, and results indicated modest improvements in sleep quality compared to the placebo group. This suggests that passionflower tea may offer short-term sleep benefits for individuals experiencing mild sleep disturbances.
I know quite a few people who drink passionflower tea before bed and swear by it, it’s not something I’ve really used before so it’s quite new to me.
Another randomised, double-blind, placebo-controlled clinical trial assessed a standardised extract of Passiflora incarnata in individuals with stress-related insomnia. Over 30 days, participants who received the extract experienced significant reductions in stress levels and noticeable improvements in sleep quality compared to the placebo group. The study concluded that Passiflora incarnata extract is beneficial for managing stress and enhancing sleep in individuals with sleep issues linked to stress.
Lavender
I mean, how much do I need to explain the use of lavender for sleep, I feel like this is the most commonly known ingredient for sleep. I used to drink lavender tea before bed about a decade ago, while I even have some lavender bath salts in the bathroom (yep, I enjoy a nice relaxing bath).
A critical review of clinical evidence examined the use of lavender for sleep disorders across various populations and conditions. The review found promising evidence of lavender’s effectiveness in improving sleep quality, particularly when its essential oil was administered through inhalation or aromatherapy.
Ordering YourSleep CBD Oil
During January, YourSleep are offering buy 1 get 1 free in January on their CBD oils, which makes it an amazing price! Considering it’s £39.99 for 2,000mg before that deal, it feels crazy thinking back to when I entered the industry and the price was above £100 for that quantity, it’s great to see how much more you get for your money nowadays.
Also, keep an eye out for new upcoming launches by the brand, with some interesting products in the pipeline.
