This was perfect time to test out a new CBD balm, as I’ve been going overboard training recently and have actually managed to damage my ankle and my rotator cuff, so a soothing muscle rub is just what was on the cards! I also continuously used this once feeling better after each morning workout. This is the first of two products I’ll be reviewing by FourFiveCBD, the CBD brand launched by rugby duo George Kruis and Dominic Day.
What Is Included?
The most important ingredient, each 45ml tub contains 300mg of CBD, which is an isolate, as can be seen by their lab report, meaning it doesn’t contain THC or any other cannabinoids.
The other ingredients include sunflower seed oil, olive oil, grapeseed oil, candelilla wax, lavender flower oil, menthol, vitamin E, marigold flower, pine extract, niaouli oil and tea tree oil.
The aroma was almost like Vicks vaporub, what you would rub on your chest when you were ill, undoubtedly thanks to the menthol ingredient.
How Do I Use It?
Whereas the other CBD muscle recovery solutions I have used have been lotions, this was a balm. You therefore rub the balm onto your fingers and then rub into a circular motion on the area of skin that you’re looking to target.
You should keep rubbing until it starts to sink into the skin, while you should then make sure to wash your hands afterwards.
Why Include Tea Tree Oil?
Tea tree oil is both anti-inflammatory and has anti-microbial properties, so it can help to ease any inflammation and swelling after a hard workout. It has often been included in many products due to its ability to help sooth sore muscles.
Why Include Niaouli Oil?
Niaouli has a number of benefits, but the most notable is the fact it has been show to help stimulate new cell growth, so if the tissues are damaged from exercising, it should speed up the recovery process. It’s also used to help relieve join and muscle pain, plus it can improve blood flow around the body.
Why Include Lavender Flower Oil?
There are a number of essential flower oils which have built a strong reputation for their ability to help relieve pain that are a result of muscle tension and stress and lavender is certainly one of the key ones. This is largely thanks to its analgesic and anti-inflammatory properties, which is why it is commonly used by masseuse.
Why Include Marigold Flower?
The marigold flower contains calendula oil, which can help to relieve muscle spasms and is often included in muscle lotions and balms. In fact, this ingredient was actually commonly used in menstrual products, helping to treat the cramps and soreness with its antifungal, anti-inflammatory, and antibacterial properties.
Why Include Menthol?
This is the ingredient that creates the cooling feeling after you’ve put it on, followed by it feeling warmer. The sensation of pain is therefore reduced through this process as a counterirritant. It’s a common ingredient in topical treatments to tackle any minor aches and pains in the muscles or joints.
