sativum CBD

I was incredibly excited to try this CBD oil by a Dutch brand I’ve not tried before, Sativum, in a very high strength. This highly ethical brand uses 100% natural ingredients and is vegan friendly. I do love it when a brand matches a great quality product with an virtuous attitude towards life!

How Much CBD Do You Get?

While they offer three alternatives of 300mg, 500mg and 1,000mg CBD, I have the strongest form, being 2,500mg. Unsurprisingly, this meant I had a hell of a good night’s sleep!

Taking a deeper look at their certificate of analysis, performed in Slovenia by Pharma Lab, beside the expected CBD and CBDA, they also have a noticeable presence of CBDV, THCV and CBG. There are also very minor amounts of CBC and THC (obviously way below the legal limit for THC).

All the cannabinoids, terpenes and flavonoids work better together in unison in a phenomenon known as the entourage effect. This is why people often opt for a full spectrum CBD oil such as this, rather than going for an isolate.

Who Are Sativum?

Sativum are a Netherlands based CBD brand, founded by Jonas Urbonas, who is both a cannabis lover and also a decent chap from our conversations.

As you would expect, they use CO2 extraction methods to ensure the highest quality full spectrum raw hemp oil. The oils are organically grown and are produced under ISO9001 certification.

I was also very impressed to find out they use recycled materials to make up their packaging. They also plant a tree for every product they sell, a movement I’m very personally motivated by. The trees are planted in the Amazon Rainforest, somewhere I visited a few years back, which is sadly being completely torn apart so that there is more space for cattle to be raised and turned into burgers. It’s not just the trees that are being destroyed in the Amazon, it’s the abundance of wildlife, from birds to animals, plants and bugs, many of which are unique to this area.

How Much Do I Take?

The amount you take is partly down to you. If you haven’t taken CBD oil before then you should start with a lower amount and build up. There are a total 250 ‘drops’ in the 10ml bottle, which works out as 10mg of CBD per drop.

Sativum state on their packaging that you should take 4 drops, which would be 40mg of CBD. Obviously, if you plan on taking this at multiple times throughout the day then you might want to split your dosage, for example, I often have some in the morning and some before going to sleep.

I really struggle to count how many drops have landed in my mouth; therefore I prefer to fill the pipette to a certain level and base my judgement on that. For example, the full pipettes normally measure to 1ml. 1ml would be 250mg of CBD, so if I filled it to a fifth full, that would be 50mg of CBD. This is just a little trick to work out the measurement based on how much you require if you also struggle with evaluating how many drops you’ve had.

As always, remember to hold the drops under your tongue for 1-2 minutes to allow it to properly absorb, before swallowing the remaining liquid.

Where Can I Buy This From?

You can purchase the Sativum 2,500mg CBD Full Spectrum Raw Hemp Oil from their website for €99.95 (around £89.95), which I think is actually a very reasonable price considering the strength and what some competitors are charging.

Being based in Brighton, I have directly witnessed the CBD industry grow and prosper, albeit witnessing the difficulties around legislation and the lack of transparency. I therefore decided to become a neutral viewpoint offering genuine reviews, advice and guidance.
