Can CBD Enhance Your Sex Life?

Beyond product reviews, I’ve been asking my followers what questions they have which I can help with and one that popped up a couple of times was whether CBD can enhance you sex life. This is a complicated question, without a direct answer, so I’ve broken this up into a number of points below.

The Endocannabinoid System

Inside your body is an endocannabinoid system, with receptors found all over, including in sexual reproductive organs and in the brain. One study found direct evidence of how the endocannabinoid system is heavily involved in the control of male reproduction. There is also substantial evidence that taking CBD can help to activate these receptors and cause a number of reactions in the body that could enhance your bedroom activities. The endocannabinoid system regulates your immune system, nervous system and many of your body’s organs, so the potential benefits are profound.

No Stress, More Sleep

One of the biggest factors when it comes to losing your libido, struggling to get an erection or not performing in the bedroom comes down to stress levels. The stress hormone cortisol causes havoc in the body, while it can also prevent you from sleeping at night, which will lead you to feeling more tired and less in the mood for sex the next day. Stress can diminish the release and production of sexual hormones.

I have written in deep detail how CBD can alleviate stress and in turn, help you to sleep better at night with a clear mind.

Beyond all of this, many people suffer from ‘performance anxiety’, scared whether they can get an erection, maintain it for a length of time or perform to a highly perceived level. As CBD can help to calm anxiety and stress, these thoughts will fade and the person involved can focus on the joy of sex rather than other thoughts in their mind.

Chronic Pain

Maybe you suffer from a bad back, or you could have a constant ache in your shoulders thanks to a previous rotator cuff injury. Whatever the reason, chronic pain can prevent people from wanting to perform sexual activities, for fear of flaring something up and pushing through the pain. CBD is one of the most important tools for tackling chronic pain, as shown in numerous studies, far greater than other traditional medicines which tend to have negative side effects. This allows you to get in the bedroom with fear of the pain.

My Own Survey

Not one to completely rely on external sources of information, I wanted to put out a survey myself to CBD users, to find out how they have found the process and whether they think it has enhanced their results in the bedroom. The survey was conducted in the UK, reaching 100 people, with a blend of ages, but the minimum being 18.

69% said they felt it had enhanced their sex life since taking CBD, a perfect number considering the theme of the survey! Having said that, only 4% said they took CBD to enhance their sex life, therefore this has been an added bonus rather than something they openly sought out.

I should make it clear 83% of those surveyed said they were taking CBD oil, rather than any other form of treatment, such as gummies, tea or topicals.

86% said they felt less stressed since taking CBD oil, an unsurprising figure considering this is the main reason people try to take the over-the-counter product. 54% said they felt more confident in themselves and their body since taking CBD as well.

63% said they took CBD as a couple rather than on their own, meaning both parties can benefit from these positive effects.

Could CBD/THC Lube Be The Future?

This might sound a little bizarre, but they are vasodilators, meaning they promote the dilation of blood vessels. It doesn’t take a genius to realise this is one of the causing issues around erectile dysfunction and something these products are created to tackle. This could be applied topically, as with any lube, but for it to take effect, it would have to be applied in advance of any sexual activity, so anyone taking this might have to have this in mind, applying 30-60 minutes before sex. Here is a study that looks at how cannabidiol supplementation helped to reduce blood pressure and improved blood flow through the body.
