Whether it’s depression, anxiety or various other mental health issues, we have historically been told to start with lifestyle changes and general health recommendations before being presecribed medicine which has side effects and can cause alternative issues.

However, with the growth and awareness of the benefits of CBD oil for depression, more people are now turning to holistic remedies to solve their issues. According to one survey, now 50% of British people stated they were using holistic remedies, a sharp increase on figures in 2015 which were around 12%.

As it stands, these aren’t prescribed by the NHS, who still only give them on a very limited basis if people have epilepsy, therefore they are still not recognised as a solution for those with mental health conditions, despite the building evidence.

In fact, for CBD oil to be sold in the UK, it has to have under 0.2% THC and must be sold as a ‘food supplement’. The brand also must not highlight any supposed benefits for it to be legally sold, they must simply state you can purchase it on their website and then can direct you towards studies that support the point of selling them for mental health purposes.

The CBD industry doubled in 2018 compared to the year before and it has doubled again in 2019 based on current figures, showing the huge growth in people looking for holistic remedies. At the same time, when demand grows, so do suppliers, with brands seeming to be launched on a daily basis. The issue with so many brands being launched during this gold rush of growth is that many poor quality products are being introduced to the market and potentially causing more issues than they are solving. Just the same, many fail to declare their 3rd party lab test results or simply don’t have them. This is why I try my best to sample as many as I can and review them on my CBD blog, so I can offer guidance and transparency on the industry.

What Mental Health Conditions Does CBD Oil Treat?

  1. Depression
  2. Anxiety
  3. ADHD
  4. PTSD
  5. Schizophrenia
  6. Bipolar

These are the core mental health conditions that people are taking CBD oil for, with …

Something that is worth considering is the amount of CBD and THC you require, as well as the breakdown of cannabinoids (full spectrum and the entourage effect) will differ based on what you are trying to treat. There are a number of studies that have been taken for each condition and detail the differences with the CBD oil you require and the strength in order to use it as a treatment.

The use of CBD for neuropsychiatric disorders has been running for almost fifty years, therefore when you hear there is a lack of evidence, that simply isn’t true, it is just that many tests can take a very long period of time to truly determine the long term effects and whether it qualifies as a treatment that can be diagnosed.

Of course, with cases being shown in the media and repeated evidence of people being helped by holistic remedies, there is a strong move towards these and the government is under increased pressure to change their legislation. I can’t imagine we will have a relaxed ruling like Canada any time soon unfortunately, but we are certainly moving in a positive direction.
