Meet Tom Bourlet

I’ve spent 15 years in Brighton after moving from London and attending Brighton University. Recently, I relocated to Burgess Hill, which I now consider my ‘forever home’. My background is rooted in digital marketing, predominantly in SEO, and my passion for blogging has fueled my journey in the CBD industry.

I also run Spaghetti Traveller, a travel blog that has been my creative outlet for over twelve years. While I’ve enjoyed sharing my travel adventures, the CBD space captivated me due to its rapid growth and the pressing need for quality information.

How It Began?

My journey into CBD started in early 2019 when I was preparing for a radio interview with BBC. Hoping to calm my nerves, I recalled using Rescue Remedy during a previous interview and wanted something with a little more effectiveness. It was during a conversation with a work colleague that I first learned about CBD.

Intrigued by the potential health benefits, I dove deep into research. However, I quickly became frustrated by the lack of reliable information and transparency in the industry. Questions flooded my mind: What distinguishes full spectrum from broad spectrum? What strength should a beginner choose? What carrier oil is best?

Most alarmingly, I discovered that many brands lacked quality assurance. I found countless companies that didn’t provide lab tests, and some even sourced their hemp from farms using pesticides and chemical fertilizers.

With my background as a travel blogger, I noticed that while the travel niche was heavily saturated, there was a glaring absence of dedicated CBD bloggers. I thought, if I couldn’t find a credible source for CBD information, why not create one myself?

The Birth of CBD Sloth

Finding brands willing to provide CBD products was essential in my early days. My experience in marketing helped me connect with industry leaders as I learned to test and review products diligently. The concept for my website had been brewing for a while, but I struggled to find the perfect name.

Finally, I landed on “CBD Sloth.” Sloths, often perceived as slow or lazy, are actually intelligent creatures. They are gentle, soft, and embody a lifestyle of relaxation—attributes I wanted to promote through my platform. This connection felt too significant to ignore, and thus, CBD Sloth was born.

Since then, I’ve tested over 300 different CBD products, ranging from oils, balms, and creams to teas, chocolates, gummies, and capsules. My personal experience with CBD has been transformative; it was the first time in my life that I could fall asleep within just 20 minutes after years of struggling with insomnia.

How’s It Been?

Looking back, it’s hard to believe that it’s now been six years since I launched CBD Sloth. In the first six months, I was nominated for the Cannabiz Summit Awards in Malta. I debated attending, but with flight prices skyrocketing, I decided against it. Winning Media of the Year was bittersweet because I missed the gala, but it was a significant milestone nonetheless.

Since then, I’ve participated in numerous industry events, including the World CBD Awards, where I serve as a media partner. I look forward to attending more events, so if you’re going to one, let’s connect over coffee and discuss everything CBD!
