I am excited to introduce you to a new and exciting brand, Holistic Highland Hemp, a brand which I will be trying and testing a number of products from over the next few weeks.
A member of the Scottish Hemp Association and only using 100% natural ingredients in all of their products, Holistic Highland Hemp are a trustworthy brand that utilises effective farming practices.
I’m kicking off with the CBD chocolate. Oh that’s right, I’ve got to an odd point in my life where I’m testing chocolate for a living! I just wish I could tell young me this is what I’d be doing when I grow up.
What Flavour Does It Come In?
The chocolate is an orange and vanilla combination. They utilise vanilla powder and orange oil to achieve this taste.
It’s also 65% cocoa, so it very much has a dark chocolate taste to it. Being vegan friendly, it also contains no milk at all.
I actually found I noticed the sea salt taste coming through the most (think of salty caramel flavours).
How Much CBD Do You Get?
A single bar contains 25mg of CBD. They have cut lines for 8 pieces of chocolate, which would be 3.125mg of CBD per piece.
They utilise full spectrum hemp paste in the chocolate to provide you with CBD, but also helping you to benefit from the entourage effect with a collection of other cannabinoids present.
So, besides the combination of CBD and CBDA, you will also find CBG, CBDVA, CBGA, CBC and minor amounts of THC (below the UK legal limit).
The certificate of analysis is available on the product page of their website and is orchestrated by Phytovista Labs, one of the most well known CBD labs in the UK. If you don’t know how to read it, take a look at my guide to certificates of analysis.
Is This CBD Chocolate Organic?
Yes it is. As with all reputable hemp brands, they ensure the cannabis is completely organically grown, meaning no pesticides or chemical fertilisers. This is because hemp is highly porous and these would pass through to the oil.
However, Holistic Highland Hemp have ensured every ingredient in their CBD chocolate has been organically grown.
On top of this, I quite like that it is held in plastic free packaging with a fully compostable inner wrapper.
Why Take CBD In Chocolate?
I mean, firstly, why not?!
Realistically, most people I meet and introduce CBD to have an issue with the taste. It can be quite intense when people start out, hence the growth of flavoured CBD oil’s.
Also, not everyone wants to take an oil, dropped under their tongue for a couple of minutes, especially if they want to take something in a workplace environment before a big presentation. A few pieces of chocolate can look a lot more discrete and also allows you to actually enjoy the process. It won’t feel like a daily chore when you’re enjoying yourself!
How Much Sugar Is In Each Piece?
They utilise coconut palm sugar to add sweetness to the chocolate. Per 100 grams, there are 23 grams of sugar. A bar is 30 grams, meaning 6.9 grams of sugar. There are 8 pieces in a pack, meaning 0.8 grams of sugar per piece.
Where Can I Buy This From?
If you head over to the Holistic Highland Hemp website, you will find the 100% organic CBD chocolate available for £4.99. Alternatively, you can opt for a box of 12 bars for £54.99, helping you to save money through economies of scale.
